Health Justice Initiative

The Health Justice Initiative represents ACE’s growing commitment to understanding the intersection of law and public health. Following the 2024 announcement of the new Faculty of Health at the University of Victoria, ACE began building a collaborative research agenda focused on how legal systems shape — and are shaped by — health equity and social determinants of well-being.

With guidance from ACE Associate Dr. Tamil Kendall (UBC Medicine), the initiative recruited new graduate researchers and established early partnerships with scholars in health law, public policy, and legal epidemiology. ACE has also been in active dialogue with the Ontario Health Justice Partnership Community of Practice to share insights and expand national collaboration. These foundational efforts are expected to culminate in a national symposium on health justice in 2026.
