Open Court Principle Project

This project addresses the evolving meaning and implementation of the open court principle in the context of virtual administrative hearings. In the wake of widespread digital transformation during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, ACE researchers are investigating how transparency and public accountability can be preserved in online formats.

The research maps legal requirements, institutional variations, access to justice implications, and available remedies where the principle may be breached. This project is expected to contribute to law reform discussions in British Columbia and may inform broader national standards for online tribunal practices.
